In terms of new releases, PlayStation has had a fairly quiet year so far, but that will change with February 2022. PlayStation exclusive games like Sifu and Horizon Forbidden West are right around the corner, plus February 2022 will see the launch of significant multi-platform titles as well, like Destiny 2: The Witch Queen and Elden Ring.

February isn’t usually known for its big video game releases, but February 2022 seems to be an exception to that rule. There are numerous major game releases planned for next month across all platforms, but PlayStation fans especially have a lot to look forward to in February. There are some huge multi-platform games on the horizon, not to mention some PlayStation exclusives on the way as well.

February 2022 is starting off strong with Life is Strange: Remastered Collection dropping on February 1, followed closely by Dying Light 2 Stay Human on February 4. Dying Light 2 Stay Human is an open world zombie game where players traverse a city using parkour techniques. First revealed four years ago, fans have been waiting quite some time to get their hands on Dying Light 2, but the wait is nearly over.

Notable skateboarding indie game OlliOlli World then releases on February 8, joined by what is quite possibly the first major PlayStation console exclusive release of the entire year, Sifu. Sifu is a martial arts game with a unique gimmick where death means the player character respawns as an older version of themselves. This keeps going on until they die from old age, at which point players are faced with a permanent game over. Sifu’s unique concept, action, and art style have helped turn heads since its reveal, and it will be interesting to see if it lives up to the hype come launch.

The week of February 15 will enjoy a string of new PlayStation releases, with Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires releasing on February 15, The King of Fighters 15 launching on February 17, and of course, Horizon Forbidden West releasing to the masses on February 18. Horizon Forbidden West is the highly-anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, Guerrilla’s open world game that earned widespread critical acclaim on PlayStation 4. Forbidden West is the first true PlayStation exclusive release of the year, with no PC version currently announced at the time of this writing.

Hype is high for Horizon Forbidden West, and luckily PlayStation fans will be able to check it out regardless of if they have a PS5 or not. Horizon Forbidden West is a cross-gen game that’s set to be readily available for both PS4 and PS5, so any PS4 gamers that have found it difficult to get their hands on a PS5 won’t be left out.

Exclusives like Horizon Forbidden West and Sifu are big reasons why PlayStation fans have a lot to be excited about in February 2022, but there’s even more on the way next month. Fans of Bungie’s popular looter-shooter Destiny 2 can check out the upcoming Witch Queen expansion, scheduled to drop on February 22. The Witch Queen expansion in Destiny 2 is adding new story content for fans to complete, not to mention throwing the new Glaive weapon type into the mix. Balance changes and many other updates are in store for Destiny 2 when Witch Queen launches, and so it should go a long way in keeping dedicated players engaged while bringing back lapsed fans.

Monark and PlatinumGames’ Sol Cresta are both launching on February 24, followed by racing game Assetto Crosa Competizione on February 24 and RPG Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream on February 25. Racing game GRID Legends is also launching February 25, but the big game for the end of February has to be the latest game from celebrated developer FromSoftware, Elden Ring.

Elden Ring is one of the most-anticipated games of the year, as it takes the established Dark Souls formula and translates it to an open world format. FromSoftware has delivered hit game after hit game, and so chances are good that Elden Ring will continue the developer’s hot streak. Elden Ring’s focus on its open world environment and co-op gameplay will ensure that it stands out from FromSoftware’s other titles, and what’s been shown off so far looks incredibly promising. Elden Ring hype is through the roof and PlayStation fans will find out if it was worth the wait when it finally launches on February 25.

And these are just the games coming to PlayStation in February 2022 that have confirmed release dates. There are some titles currently scheduled for release next month without release dates announced, like Blood Bowl 3 and Evil Dead: The Game.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that these games may wind up getting delayed to later in the year, so PlayStation fans should keep that in mind. However, even if some of these games are pushed back, there’s still enough coming in February 2022 that PlayStation fans should still be excited for what next month has in store.

Possible PlayStation State of Play Event

New game releases are the main reason why PlayStation fans should be excited for February, but there’s a chance that there will be even more to look forward to next month. Rumors from reputable sources point to a possible PlayStation State of Play event taking place in February, wherein PlayStation will highlight upcoming games that are in development for its PlayStation 4 and PS5 consoles.

It’s been quite a few months since the last PlayStation State of Play took place, and so it seems like we’re due for a new one. Sony hasn’t announced any plans at the time of this writing, though, so fans should keep their expectations in check.
